Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Whatever name, case number, or date of birth you type into a search box here goes straight to the outside provider that runs that search. The provider processes the request and returns the results. We do not keep or log the search terms you enter on our side.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, we hold onto the message long enough to write back, and it stays within our team. We do not pass it to anyone outside the organization unless the law or a valid legal order requires it.
Data We Gather Automatically
Each time a page here loads, our servers record a little technical information about the visit:
- The IP address of the device you used
- The browser you were on and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- Which pages you opened and how long each stayed on screen
- The site that referred you, if one did
- A timestamp for every page view
Cookies and Analytics
We also set cookies, which are small files your device stores so we can see how the site gets used, such as which pages draw the most visits and where readers stop. Analytics services pull that traffic into summaries. You can block cookies in your browser settings whenever you like, though a few parts of the site may behave differently if you do.
What We Do With This Data
What we collect is used for a short list of purposes:
- Keeping the site online and loading quickly
- Passing your search request to the right partner service
- Learning which pages readers find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical problems
- Serving ads that may relate to your interests
No Warrant Data on File
This site does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of warrants or personal warrant records. We publish general guidance about where Leelanau County warrant records sit and how to check them through the 86th District Court, the 13th Judicial Circuit Court and the County Clerk, and the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office. Michigan runs no public statewide warrant search, so there is no state system for us to mirror. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and nothing we collect about visitors is turned into consumer reports or files about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
The search boxes here belong to outside companies. What you type into one is processed under that partner's privacy policy, not this one. Those partners decide their own retention and sharing rules, and we have no say over them. Read the partner's policy before you send a search.
Links to Other Websites
Pages here link out to court portals, county offices, legal aid groups, and third-party search tools. Following one of those links takes you off this site, and the destination's privacy policy then governs your visit. Read it before you share personal details.
Some advertising partners track activity across sites in order to target ads. That tracking runs on their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Some information can still reach other parties:
- Search partners that handle the queries you run here
- Analytics services that measure traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place the ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or a government body when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
We follow standard security practices to protect what we collect. Nothing connected to the internet is ever fully safe, so we take reasonable steps without promising that a breach can never happen.
Users Under 18
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 to 15.246, governs public records held by county and local agencies, and court records follow the Michigan Court Rules, including MCR 8.119. Those laws apply to government offices, not to this private site. For the information we do hold, you can:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have information that is wrong corrected
- Ask us to erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may change down the road. When it does, the new version goes up on this page with a fresh effective date. Check back if you want to follow how your information is handled.
